If you're one of the millions of Americans relying on Social Security, you might want to check your bank account this week. Wednesday, June 17, marks another payment day for a specific group of beneficiaries.
Who's Getting Paid on June 17?
Not everyone receives their Social Security payment on the same day. The Social Security Administration spreads payments throughout the month based on when you were born.
If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of any month, your benefits should arrive on Wednesday, June 17.
Here's how the full June payment schedule breaks down:
- Birthday on the 1st-10th: Payment sent Wednesday, June 10
- Birthday on the 11th-20th: Payment sent Wednesday, June 17
- Birthday on the 21st-31st: Payment sent Wednesday, June 24
Important note: If you receive benefits based on a spouse's or parent's work history, the payment date is tied to their birthday, not yours.
What About Other Payment Groups?
Some people don't follow the Wednesday schedule at all:
- Long-term beneficiaries who enrolled before May 1997 received their payments on June 3, regardless of their birthday.
- Dual recipients who get both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) also received their Social Security payment on June 3, with their SSI arriving on June 1.
How Much Can You Expect?
Payment amounts vary based on your work history and benefit type, but here are the current average monthly payments:
| Benefit Type | Average Monthly Payment |
|---|---|
| Retirement | $2,026.41 |
| Survivor | $1,625.56 |
| Disability | $1,493.20 |
How Will You Receive Your Money?
The Social Security Administration offers two main ways to get your benefits:
-
Direct Deposit – The most common option. You can manage your bank details through the SSA's online portal at my Social Security.
-
Direct Express Card – A prepaid debit card designed for federal benefit payments. To sign up, call 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or visit your local Social Security office.
With over 71 million Americans receiving Social Security benefits each month, these payment schedules keep the system running smoothly. If you're expecting a payment this Wednesday, keep an eye on your account!
